Radiotherapy

What is Radiotherapy?

Radiotherapy treatment is performed by radiation oncology specialists. Radiotherapy is a treatment performed by penetrating the rays of high energy waves into a part of the body.

• Radiotherapy is painless.

• The area of the skin exposed to radiotherapy may become sensitive and easily irritated.

• Side effects of radiotherapy are usually temporary and vary depending on the area of the body being treated.

In the Radiation Oncology department, ionizing radiation is used to control malignant cells as part of cancer treatment. In order to deliver radiation to the diseased organ in the most accurate and appropriate way, devices such as TrueBeam, called Linear Accelerator, developed for this purpose, are required. The use of high doses of radiation with the use of these devices, mostly for the purpose of destroying cancerous tissue or providing palliation, is called "radiotherapy" or "radiation therapy".

In our Radiation Oncology department; Our services include radiation oncologists, medical physicists, radiotherapy technicians, nurses, dosimetrists, psychologists, social workers, dietitians, radiation protection specialists and patient consultants. In addition, the most basic steps in treatment guidance, such as investigating the extent of the tumor and staging it after evaluation with clinics such as Nuclear Medicine, Radiology and Pathology, are solved with a multidisciplinary approach.
